Rooster-swapping with Pat Foreman

As many of you know, our rooster, Harry Potter, has become a real jerk lately, attacking Jake and Stephanie. I mentioned this to Pat Foreman, and she very generously offered to trade a beautiful, large Buff Orphington named Elrod. Saturday Pat came out to the garden with Elrod, and she somehow managed to scoop Harry Potter right up without too much fuss. Pat is amazing. And brave.

Here's Elrod. What a beautiful bird.

Not sure you can see what's happening here, but Harry Potter is in full-blown attack mode. Pat just reached down and picked him up, then held him upside down. Jake was gratified that his arch-nemesis was finally in custody.

Elrod settled right in, and there was peace once again in the kingdom...
...until a serpent tries to slip in the back door.

Okay, this is gross, but very interesting. The next day we went back and found this black snake, recently deceased, with his head in the pen.

The moral of this story is: If you are a no-good, egg-thieving snake, keep your head OUT of the chicken pen because Elrod will put a serious hurt on you. Or worse.
